Regional Training on Flood Forecasting Tool for Climate Adaptation

The AIT Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (AIT RRC.AP) proposed to introduce a flood forecasting tool called 'FloodS', a tool developed by a Japanese private company 'Hitachi' under the support of the Ministry of Environment, Japan, in the region. The introduction of this tool is owing to the requirement of climate adaptation in the region to forecast the flood and their expected impact for appropriate adaptation strategies as a part of a larger climate adaptation plan in the region.
Mentoring on Climate Change Adaptation Project Development with Cambodia's National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development Secretariat (NCCDS)

Virtual Meeting
The AIT RRC.AP convened a virtual mentoring meeting with the NCCDS and is working towards pursuing funding from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to support climate resilience-building activities in Cambodian communities.
Organising a Training Programme on National Mercury Monitoring

A training programme titled "Organising a Training Programme on National Mercury Monitoring" was convened at the AIT Conference Centre (AITCC). It is the second in series of training programmes slated under the UNEP implemented Japan-funded project called "Project for promoting the Minamata Convention on Mercury by making the most of Japan's knowledge and experiences". A total of 21 country delegates from 10 countries in Asia and the Pacific participated in the training programs with six (6) resource persons including mercury monitoring experts were invited to participated in the training.

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) promoted the AIT-UNEP collaborations projects in the region at the Seventh Session of the Committee on Environment and Development (CED7) at the UN Conference Centre from November 29 to December 01, 2022. AIT team, represented by staff from AIT RRC.AP and the Office of the VPKT, mounted exhibition booth to disseminate AIT-UNEP collaborations projects.
The Twenty-fourth Session of the Intergovernmental Meeting (IG24) on the Acid Deposition Monitoring Network in East Asia (EANET)

The twenty-fourth Session of the Intergovernmental Meeting (IG24) of the EANET made important decisions on the implementation of its expansion of scope and newly established Project Fund. The meeting gathered over 70 representatives of the EANET participating countries.

Virtual Meeting
The meeting discussed acid deposition monitoring activities of the EANET in 2021 including project proposals submitted by NC and Participating Countries. Over 50 participants including the Scientific Advisory Committee members, and the Secretariat joined the meeting.
The fourth edition of the Youth Energy Academy in Asia was held at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. The programme convened 24 youth from seven countries in south and southeast Asia to equip them with skills to design and implement sustainable energy projects at the community level.
Emissions of Greenhouse Gases from Municipal Solid Waste Management System in Ho Chi Minh City of Viet Nam
R. L. Verma and G. Borongan have published a peer review scientific journal article titled "Emissions of Greenhouse Gases from Municipal Solid Waste Management System in Ho Chi Minh City of Viet Nam" in Urban Science (Urban Sci. 2022, 6, 78) (MDPI). This article estimated emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) from the Municipal Solid Waste Management System in the Ho Chi Minh City of Viet Nam. The GHG emission data of this study may be useful to policy makers of Viet Nam for making effective climate change mitigation policies.
Ms. Mae Jordaine B. Diopenes joined the Climate Change Cluster at the AIT RRC.AP as an intern that will commence from 21 November 2022 to 21 May 2023. The focus of her work will be supporting the cluster in preparation and execution of training, mentoring and knowledge sharing activities that includes programmes on Building Cities' Resilience, National Adaptation Planning, concept note development for the Green Climate Fund, Flood forecasting tool and Youth Energy Academy. During the internship she will also assist and support the cluster in the development of e-learning materials, capacity building activities, content creation for website and social media and other tasks to name a few.
Mae holds a BA in International Relations and Global Affairs from Mahidol University International College, with experience from an exchange program to the University of Victoria under the SEED scholarship program provided by the Government of Canada.
