Dr. Guilberto Borongan, Director of the AIT Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific, and his staff warmly welcomed Professor Pai-Chi Li, the newly appointed President of the Asian Institute of Technology, upon his visit to the Centre on September 19, 2024. Professor Li, a seasoned academic leader with over two decades of experience, joins AIT from National Taiwan University. Previously serving as Vice President for Research and Development, he also held the position of Associate Dean in the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Renowned for his work in biomedical engineering, Professor Li's contributions to advanced technologies have been groundbreaking.
Training Workshop on Waste Management in ASEAN Cities

The workshop brought together over 40 participants from across ASEAN cities. The aim was to enhance participants' knowledge, skills, and capacity for effective municipal solid waste management (MSWM), emphasizing evidence-based decision-making and circular economy principles.

The STM25 Meeting was organized by the Network Center (NC) for the EANET in collaboration with the Secretariat for the EANET. The meeting aimed to share updates on EANET monitoring activities' current status and review the preliminary results of the Draft Data Report and the Inter-laboratory Comparison Project (2023). Invited senior technical officials from EANET participating countries attended the meeting. Staff from AIT RRC.AP also participated as observers.

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MoEJ) has conducted the Group Seminar on Fluorocarbons Life Cycle Management for Asian Countries. The Initiative on Fluorocarbons Life cycle management (IFL) has been promoting relevant actions in developing countries to minimize emissions of hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) from the cooling sector.
The CaRMPAC Project was officially launched on August 16, 2024, in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The project focuses on enhancing the capacities of stakeholders to prevent plastic and pellet leakage into the marine environment.
Series of Visits of the Office of Civil Defense Regional Office VIII, Philippines

The Office of Civil Defense Regional Office VIII, Philippines, led by Regional Director, Dir. Lord Byron P. Torrecarion visited the AIT RRC.AP in three separate batches (October 4, 10, and 17 respectively) during the month of October 2024. AIT RRC.AP briefed participants on its programmes and activities with special emphasis on FloodS and Downscaler tools. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD), as the implementing arm of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, shall have the primary mission of administering a comprehensive national civil defense and disaster risk reduction and management program by providing leadership in the continuous development of strategic and systematic approaches as well as measures to reduce the vulnerabilities and risks to hazards and manage the consequences of disasters.

AIT RRC.AP welcomed Dr. Emiko Matsuda, Deputy Director, Climate Change Science and Adaptation Office, Global Environment Bureau, Ministry of Environment Japan (MOEJ) on 3rd September 2024. Dr. Matsuda met the team at AIT RRC.AP alongside Prof. Kyoko Kusakabe, Prof. Nophea Sasaki and Prof. Takuji Tsusaka. Many proposals were discussed, and fruitful meeting were concluded with Dr. Emiko Matsuda.
