On 15 May 2023 during the seventy-ninth session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, the AIT Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (AIT RRC.AP) participated and presented interventions and insights at a side event titled "Streamlining Nature-based Solutions to Enhance Mitigation and Climate Resilience in the Asia and Pacific." The side event session focused on Nature-based Solutions to address environmental and sustainable development challenges in the Asia-Pacific region. |

Regional Training Workshop on Building Cities Resilience to Climate and Disaster Risks |

AIT RRC.AP organised the Regional Training Workshop on Building Cities Resilience to Climate and Disaster Risks on 8 - 11 May 2023. Around 30 participants, including municipality/city officials and academicians from Indonesia, Lao PDR, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam as well as representatives from the partner organisations attended the 4-day training workshop which aimed at enhancing capacities of different stakeholders to develop and implement city resilience action plans. |

Around 70 online participants from across the Asia and the Pacific region attended the live webinar which reflected on the essential climate change adaptation tools that are freely available for use in climate scenario planning and strategic decision-making. |

A Webinar titled Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030): Capacity Building Models and Tools to Strengthen Cities' Resilience in Asia and the Pacific was hosted by AIT RRC.AP on 23 February 2023. The RRC.AP Director shared that the MCR2030 initiative provides a roadmap for cities to commit to building resilience to climate and disaster risks, and is comprised of three stages which includes, (i) improving cities' understanding of risks and committing to reduce; (ii) strengthening cities' capacity to develop local risk reduction strategies and plans; and (iii) supporting implementation. |

The Air Quality Management and Emission Reduction of PM2.5 Workshop Report Published Electronically |
The AIT RRC.AP had recently published the Workshop Report of the "Capacity Development Programme on Air Quality Management and Emission Reduction of PM2.5 for Member Countries of ASEAN Haze Agreement and MaléDeclaration". The report can be downloaded from RRC.AP website.
The report was also published by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) on their website as the project was funded by the APN.
The programme mainly aimed to build the capacities of the ASEAN member countries on air quality management and emission reduction of PM2.5. This e-publication is a compilation of the session outcomes of the capacity development programme workshop that was held from 19-23 September 2022 organized by the AIT RRC.AP. |

Dr. Ramesh Soysa |
Dr. Ramesh Soysa joined as the Head of the Climate Change Cluster. He has over 21 years of combined research, academic, professional and field experiences with proven track record in climate, conservation, environment and energy initiatives in international landscapes. His focus areas include proposal development, climate programming, carbon asset development and applied research initiatives that leads to low carbon emission, livelihoods enhancement and climate resilience future.
Dr. Soysa obtained his Ph.D. in Environment and Energy Mechanical Engineering from University of Science and Technology, South Korea. He holds a M.Eng. in Energy Technology from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand and a B.Eng. in Environmental Energy from the University of Leeds, England. Hnin Lai Win |
Ms. Hnin Lai Win came on board as a Programme Officer of the Climate Change Cluster of AIT RRC.AP. Her role is to provide technical support to the formulation and implementation of projects and activities on climate actions through capacity-building, knowledge sharing, research, and policy advocacy. Her work involves monitoring requests for proposal, preparation of various written outputs, including reports, studies, policy briefs, publication, outreach materials, and updating the Cluster's website content among others.
Prior to working in AIT RRC.AP, Hnin Lai Win worked as an Environmental Manager at Total Business Solution Co., Ltd. She participated in the Technical Assessment on the Application of low-carbon Technologies in AIT RRC.AP and also attended and completed a practical training course in Social Risk Management. She is a recognized member of Myanmar Environmental Assessment Association (MEAA) through her working experiences in environmental field.
Hnin Lai Win received her M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering and Management from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand and she holds a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from University of Pharmacy, Yangon. She can be reached to her email: hnin.win@rrcap.ait.ac.th |
